    There wasn’t much of a question heading into the final day of the Missouri Valley Conference men’s golf championship as to who would claim the title. SIU took a 14-stroke lead into the final day, allowing its golfers to breathe a little easier during the final 18 holes. The Salukis would bring home the title by eight strokes, finishing with a score of 856 over three rounds.

    In the past couple of years, I’ve been in my head about what I call the “rock band documentary” phenomenon. Essentially, it seems cliche for a rock band documentary to begin with a group of folks who met in college and started making music together. Entering my senior year, I felt I still hadn’t met my metaphorical bandmates yet. Perhaps I hadn’t looked hard enough, or maybe I simply wasn’t going to find that kind of connection. After all, they only make documentaries on the bands that make it big.

    May 9, 2024 Southern Illinois University and Daily Egyptian alum Nicole Hester is a finalist for the 2024 Pulitzer Prize in breaking news photography for a photo from her coverage of the Covenant School shooting in Nashville, Tennessee last March. Hester is a photojournalist from Champaign, Illinois who is currently working at the Tennessean in Nashville.

    Green Party Presidential Candidate Dr. Jill Stein is slated to speak at the University City Public Library on Saturday. She will speak alongside other academic and activist organizations on topics ranging from mass incarceration to factory farms in St. Louis. Stein has previously been slammed by members of the Democratic Party, who accused her of taking votes away from Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Southern Illinois University tenure professor Scott McClurg died April 13 after a long struggle with brain cancer. “Scott was a very good person. Very nice and considerate. Always positive and encouraging. His long fight with his illness was heroic. He will be dearly missed,” said Dong Han, an associate professor in the School of Journalism and Advertising.
