    The statue of Stephen A. Douglas seems to be pointing the way for an Alton Park and Recreation Department employee to change the ropes on the flagpoles at Lincoln-Douglas Square. Alton first responders comfort and load a man onto a stretcher after he accidently stabbed himself in the buttock in the 2100 block of Washington Avenue. A worker from Superior Turf cuts the white yard line numbers in on the football field behind Alton High School. The company was installing the artificial turf.

First responders arrived to find that a man, who had a knife in his back pocket, somehow managed to deeply stab himself in the buttock. It is not known exactly how the accident occurred.     It looked like a lot of people praying on the football field behind Alton High School on April 14 as more than a dozen workers from Superior Turf  were installing the artificial turf. Most specifically, they were lining up the white yard line numbers and individual hash marks for each yard along the side of the field. Workers traced the numbers over the green sections, cutting into the turf to install the numbers and hash marks that will then be sewn into place on the field.

    An Amtrak train collided with an empty SUV early Tuesday morning in Alton. The driver of the SUV apparently crashed through a fence and fled the vehicle after it stopped on the railroad tracks about 5 a.m. the morning of April 15. Article continues below this adThe Amtrak train crashed into the vehicle near North Rodgers Avenue, causing severe damage and pushing it down the track. None of the 25 passengers and crew on the train were injured. The train suffered minor damage.
