United Press International (UPI)

United Press International (UPI) is a global news organization that has supplied news content, including articles, photos, news footage, and audio, to a wide range of newspapers, magazines, and radio and TV stations throughout much of the 20th century. At its height, UPI boasted over 6,000 media subscribers. However, following several sales and workforce reductions beginning in 1982, and the transfer of its broadcasting client list to the Associated Press in 1999, UPI has shifted its focus to serving smaller segments of the information market.
