A 62 year old Clarendon Vale man died in a boating mishap in the Fort Direction area at South Arm this morning. Large waves tipped over the boat which had engine failure. His neighbour, who was on the fishing trip and wearing a life jacket, managed to make his way to shore to raise the alarm, with Inspector Andrew Keane acknowledging circumstances could have been different.

Tasmania Police in Launceston has released details of the seizure of four guns, a silencer and illegal substances at a property in Mowbray yesterday (Wednesday). A 23 year old man’s been charged, while he’s also accused of recklessly discharging a firearm on the 1st of February and a wounding on the 19 of January.

The new Huon Link Road at Huonville in Tasmania’s south is opening to traffic this Monday (24th March). $13.2 million was funded by the federal government and $16 million by the state. Huon Mayor Sally Doyle’s looking forward to taking some of the road pressure out of Huonville.

Construction works on the new Bridgewater Bridge have reached the home stretch with the 1082nd and final roadway segment installed yesterday in Hobart’s north. Project Director Ben Maloney says they’re hoping the bridge becomes a legacy structure that will serve the public for many years to come.
