John Swinney has been forced to make a humiliating plea to SNP members and donors as he promised they could trust the party with their money. The Nat leader addressed supporters on Saturday in the wake of Peter Murrell appearing in court on Thursday. The former part chief executive was charged with embezzlement by Police Scotland last year in relation to Operation Branchform. Cops spent four years probing SNP finances amid claims £600,000 of donations had been spent fraudulently.

A mum is to sue a West Lothian prison after her young son was left to die alone in a cell after multiple suicide attempts. Jordan Burns, 22, tried to take his own life with a razor blade, set fire to his cell and had to be resuscitated twice from drug overdoses during ten months as an unconvicted remand prisoner at HMP Addiewell, reports Sunday Mail. He was found dead in his cell on November 10, 2023, having suffered an overdose.
