    A 78-year-old local man was shot by a Surry County deputy late Friday morning, after the man allegedly pointed a shotgun at deputies while advancing on them, according to a statement released Friday evening by the Surry County Sheriff's Office. Gaston Ruben Golding, who lives on Alicia Lane near Mount Airy, was injured when shot by a deputy but survived his injuries, according to the sheriff office's statement.
