Nearly six years have passed since the Mobile BayBears played their final game at Hank Aaron Stadium, seemingly closing the book on professional baseball in Alabama’s Port City. But Mobile’s story with America’s pastime was never meant to end there. Next Tuesday, the city will step back into the sports spotlight, honoring a legacy as rich as any in the sport.

The longtime Chief Financial Officer with Alabama’s third-largest school system announced his resignation Wednesday, citing concerns with actions taken by a school board member and “unfounded and offensively false accusations” posed by certain groups. John Wilson, who spent the past 13 years as the Baldwin County School System’s CFO, submitted his resignation letter to Superintendent Eddie Tyler. According to Tyler, he is taking a new position outside of public education.

The Fairhope Library Board is hopeful that after reviewing 15 challenged books in recent months, and reshelving five of them to adult sections, they will get their state funding restored. But a member of the Alabama Public Library Services board who pushed for the Fairhope Library’s funding freeze in March, says the state money won’t be restored until all books with references to sex acts like masturbation are relocated to adult sections.

Two days after approximately 2,000 people participated in a “No Kings” protest in downtown Mobile Saturday, one of the leaders of Indivisible Mobile led a brief protest in front of U.S. Rep. Barry Moore’s congressional office. The protest kicked off what Indivisible Mobile is calling “50 Days of Shame,” part of a nationwide campaign meant to shame federal lawmakers against supporting President Donald Trump’s agenda.

Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch is steering clear of endorsing anyone for Prichard mayor this summer, but he’s crystal clear on one thing – he is not supporting two-term incumbent Jimmie Gardner. Burch and Gardner, himself a former police chief, are trading public jabs in the wake of a June 4 shooting in which a 2-year-old boy was shot in the face while sleeping next to his parents.

I'm glad Gulf Shores has @Allegiant to get their airport running, but the past 3 times I've flown this airline, it's been delays and pilots who are unable to fly and an airline that apparently doesn't pre-plan for these things. Horrible experiences of late. Thumbs way down.
