FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WV News) — The Marion County Commission committed $25,000 towards the City of Fairmont's purchase of 100 Merchant St. on Wednesday. The city plans to acquire and demolish to beautify the area surrounding Palatine Park, according to officials. The property, which sits at the corner of the main entrance to Palatine Park, has been abandoned for years and has fallen into disrepair.

Ruby Memorial Hospital held its annual flag-raising ceremony on Tuesday afternoon, celebrating the selfless acts of organ donation in the state. FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WV News) — Tygart Valley United Way's Women United will hold its second annual Spring Soiree later this month, with all the proceeds going towards funding 13 local libraries. The Spring Soiree, which this year will feature a circus theme, will be held April 26 at Fairmont State University's Falcon Center. Women United Chair Dani DeVito said that the event was created last year as Women United's signature fundraiser.

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WV News) — Novelis, an international aluminum rolling company, announced to its Fairmont employees Monday that it will be shutting down the local branch on June 30, a move that will put more than 200 people out of work. Fairmont Deputy Mayor Josh Rice, who works at Novelis as an operator of productions, shipping and receiving, said that the company shut down the plant on Saturday afternoon through Sunday, and told employees to come to the plant Monday morning for a meeting.
