Westinghouse Electric Company and the North Shore Mi’kmaq Tribal Council (NSMTC) announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote the selection and deployment of Westinghouse technology for nuclear new build projects in New Brunswick. Under the agreement, the initial focus will be on exploring possibilities for the AP300 small modular reactor (SMR) for both grid power and dedicated industrial purposes.

The Government of Ontario announced it has asked Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to explore opportunities for new nuclear energy generation at their Wesleyville site, following expressions of interest from the Municipality of Port Hope and the Williams Treaties First Nations (WTFNs). OPG will work with local communities to determine support as the province seeks to expand generation to meet the rising demand for electricity.
