AUSTIN (Nexstar) - Stefanie Roe has spent a lot of time at the Texas Capitol. In 2023, she pushed for legislation named for her son, Tucker, who died from fentanyl poisoning. He was 19 years old. In June 2023, Roe sat beside Gov. Greg Abbott as he signed Tucker's Law, which requires Texas school districts to educate students in grades 6-12 about the drug. But passing the law was just part of the fight to honor her son and save lives. Roe said there has been confusion over how to teach the topic.

AUSTIN (Nexstar) – With more than 20 hours of discussion, the Texas House Committee on Public Education adjourned around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. After hearing more than 300 testimonies on House Bill 3 (HB 3) — establishing an education savings account to subsidize private education for eligible Texans — they left the bill pending in committee. While most of the people who spoke in public testimony were opposed to HB 3, the committee posted a list of 735 people who registered their stance on the bill.

AUSTIN (Nexstar) - The Texas Lottery Commission announced Monday morning it's moving to ban lottery courier services in the state. The decision comes after pressure from state lawmakers to ban the services from doing business in Texas. Lawmakers have raised concerns including the potential for enabling money laundering and allowing underage players to buy lottery tickets. Courier services take lottery ticket orders from customers online or through an app.
