    AUSTIN (Nexstar) - Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who has been a critic of the Texas Lottery Commission, told Nexstar this week the Texas Lottery is "on life support right now," but seems confident that even if the lottery stays in Texas, there will not be a Lottery Commission. "If we have a lottery game, we need to close down the Lottery Commission and turn it over to our department of Texas licensing, TDLR," Patrick said.

    AUSTIN (Nexstar) - Gov. Greg Abbott will soon sign legislation to allow Texas parents to use public dollars to help pay for private education. On Thursday, the Texas Senate voted to send a $1 billion education savings account program to the governor to be signed into law. "There being 19 ayes and 12 nays, school choice has come to Texas!" Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said as he brought the gavel down on the vote to approve Senate Bill 2.

    AUSTIN (Nexstar) - A plan to cut property taxes for senior citizens and disabled Texans is moving forward at the State Capitol. The Texas Senate voted 30-1 Wednesday to approve Senate Bill 23, which raises the homestead exemption for those 65 and older. "I've heard about aging in place and wanting to stay in your home, and that's what this bill will do," State Sen. Paul Bettencourt, R-Houston, said before the vote.

    AUSTIN (Nexstar) - Texas House lawmakers gave preliminary approval to legislation that legalizes the possession of test strips for fentanyl and xylazine. House Bill 1644 passed 145-0. The bill requires one more vote before it can move to the Senate for consideration. Test strips allow people to determine if the drugs they are using contain fentanyl or xylazine.
