AUSTIN (KXAN) - A Texas law criminalizing " homosexual conduct" - on the books since 1973 - is closer to being repealed Monday. House Bill 1738, which would remove the measure from the state's penal code, was added to the day's General State Calendar over the weekend, preparing members for a possible floor debate. State legislators have tried for years to remove it from statute but have so far been unsuccessful.

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported a mother and her three children, two of whom are U.S. citizens, following a traffic stop last week near Dobie Middle School in north Austin, according to multiple sources, including the Texas Civil Rights Project and Immigrant Legal Resource Center. Both groups told KXAN they have since provided legal support to the family.

AUSTIN (Nexstar) - Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who has been a critic of the Texas Lottery Commission, told Nexstar this week the Texas Lottery is "on life support right now," but seems confident that even if the lottery stays in Texas, there will not be a Lottery Commission. "If we have a lottery game, we need to close down the Lottery Commission and turn it over to our department of Texas licensing, TDLR," Patrick said.

AUSTIN (Nexstar) - Legislation to let Texas parents to use public dollars to help pay for private education has been sent to Gov. Greg Abbott. The Texas Senate voted 19-12 Thursday to agree to changes made by the Texas House on Senate Bill 2. The vote sends the bill to create a $1 billion education savings account program to the governor's desk to be signed into law. State Sen. Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe, authored SB 2, after carrying similar legislation that failed to pass in previous sessions.
