Mackey Arena to host inaugural Boys Volleyball State Finals

The Indiana High School Athletic Association is pleased to announce that Mackey Arena will serve as the site of the inaugural IHSAA Boys Volleyball State Finals. The iconic Purdue University venue will host the two semifinal matches and the state championship match on Saturday, May 31, 2025. Boys volleyball is in its first year of full sponsorship by the IHSAA and participants in the state finals will conclude their high school season in another top-notch facility.
Funds saved on Shelby County bridge projects to be used in Waldron

The community of Waldron will benefit after Shelby County Commissioners opened bids on two upcoming bridge projects. Commissioner Nathan Runnebohm says the bids for the projects came in well under original engineer estimates. Runnebohm says the funds left over will now be used for improvements in Waldron.

Plymouth's team score of 329 brought a fourth place finish at the Twin Lakes Invitational. Noblesville captured the title with a 294 followed by Twin Lakes (red) 304 and McCutcheon third with a 327. Western finished a stroke behind Plymouth in fifth place with a 330. The event was played at the Tippecanoe Country Club. Mac Holm topped the Pilgrims with a 79 followed by teammates Dan Nguyen with an 81 and Ben Nguyen with an 82. Caleb Harland carded an 87.

With the 8-team Plymouth Varsity Girls Tennis Invite canceled on Saturday, the Plymouth Girls Tennis Team traveled to Culver Academies and played and split two indoor dual matches. In match one, the Pilgrims lost a nailbiter to district-ranked Crown Point, 3-2, with the final outcome not determined until the final few points of the team match. Singles:1. Ana Baron (CP) beat Tynley Gantz 6-1, 6-12. Sophia Cantero (P) beat Natalia Svetanoff 3-6, 6-0, 10-43.
5K Tree Trot, tree giveaway set for Saturday at Blue River Memorial Park

The City of Shelbyville Stormwater Utility and Shelbyville High School Earth Club will host the annual tree giveaway at Blue River Memorial Park on Saturday. The give-away event will begin at 8:30 a.m. after the start of the 5K Tree Trot. You do not have to participate in the Tree Trot to take advantage of the free tree seedlings. The giveaway will be located near the Splash Pad at Blue River Memorial Park, 775 Lee Blvd.

Plymouth scored five times in the top of the seventh to rally past Glenn in Saturday high school softball. Plymouth held the lead early with a pair of runs in the first but the offense went quiet as Glenn(5-4) tied it 2-2 in the fourth and scored two more runs in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. But Plymouth scored five times in the top of the seventh and then shut down Glenn in the bottom half of the inning to secure a 7-4 win.

Culver scored five times in the bottom of the 7th to force extras but Rochester's single run in the 8th let the Zebras escape with a Friday road win. Rochester (5-3) led through the first six-and-a-half innings by scoring twice in the first and four more in the third to go up 6-0. Culver got on the board with a single run in the fourth. After both teams scored twice in the fifth Rochester still appeared to have a comfortable 8-3 lead going into the sixth inning.
