Arlington’s Noel Buck appears headed west after nearly a decade in the Revolution system, dealt to San Jose to join a massive contingent of former New England players reunited with former coach Bruce Arena. GiveMeSport’s Tom Bogert reported on Saturday night that the Earthquakes are finalizing a deal to acquire the 20-year-old, who joined the Revolution Academy at 12 and ultimately made 59 appearances with the top-level team. The midfielder debuted with the Revolution on Aug.

A spectacular first half from captain Carles Gil was capped with a 36th-minute penalty kick, and the Revolution white knuckled their way through an Atlanta United shooting gallery after halftime for a 1-0 victory at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The match included the return of New England’s two injured strikers, as both Leo Campana and Tomás Chancalay entered as second half substitutions. Defense, however, was the late-game story.

The pieces are starting to fall into place. Not in a “the Red Sox kicked the tar out of their most recent opponent, so contention is imminent” sense, though 18 runs and 10 extra-base hits against the Cardinals on Sunday night certainly qualifies as the former. In the sense that the lineup card of the 2030 Red Sox is starting to really fill out. Fill out with names that, fingers crossed, continue delivering floggings like Sunday’s.

What a terrible third period. I look forward to never thinking about it again. #BU

The Red Sox traded Quinn Priester this morning, and also put that abomination crossover hockey jersey thing in my email. (In email, it's animated. I'm not doing that to you.) One of these things should be a crime, and I leave it to you to figure out which one I'm referring to. https://t.co/q7SAwkplLA
