The Celtics can get back to square one tonight, as a win in a crucial Game 4 against the Knicks would restore Boston’s home court advantage in the Eastern Conference semis. After authoring consecutive collapses of 20-plus points in the first two games at TD Garden, the Celtics showed up for a must-win Game 3 like the season was on the line — after all, it probably was — en route to a 22-point blowout at Madison Square Garden.

One of my favorite parts of covering Celtics games is pulling out my binoculars from the media seating at TD Garden and combing the court-side seating to spot celebrities in attendance. Here in Boston it is usually a smattering of team owners, other pro athletes, an occasional athlete or singer, and a bunch of people we couldn’t pick out of a lineup. But in New York ... baby, the stars are out.

NEW YORK — From one Garden to another. The Celtics, down 0-2 in the Eastern Conference semifinals, need to pick up a win on Saturday in Game 3 against the Knicks to give themselves a fighting chance to repeat as champions. It won’t be easy at Madison Square Garden. Tickets are going for more than $700 on the resale market to just get in the door. The Knicks have made the playoffs just nine times since the 2000-01 season, and haven’t advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals since 2000.

I can only assume the rain rolling through the Boston area today is meant to give us a pass from spending Saturday outside. Good thing, because the Celtics tip at 3:30 p.m. against the Knicks in Game 3, and I know none of you fine folks intend to miss it. Well, not quite. But longtime readers of this newsletter will remember from 2023 that no team in NBA history has ever come back from down 0-3 in a playoff series to advance.

The Celtics will be looking to remain unbeaten against the visiting Knicks this season when the teams meet in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals Monday night at TD Garden. The Knicks lost each of their four regular-season games against the Celtics — and the first three losses came by at least 13 points. Boston also beat New York 119-117 in overtime April 8. What’s the plan for New York? “Obviously, play better than we did throughout the regular season,” said Knicks guard Jalen Brunson.

Adam talks a bit about his reporting process on this piece in today's edition of Garden Party by @Amin_Touri: https://t.co/3mdqtNqY1m

New: “We lose Game 7 and I’m sitting there, and I just said, ‘F*** it. I’ve got to do this.’” The story of Joe Mazzulla’s grueling 8-day trip to a Costa Rican jungle, where a former chess prodigy became his mentor and challenged him like never before. https://t.co/BBnIfcMbWy

Meet our new Red Sox writer, Tim Healey! So glad to have him on the beat. Maybe he can figure out why the Sox keep blowing all these leads.

Folks (part 2): I’m joining The Boston Globe as the Red Sox beat writer, beginning in early June. It’s a special job in a special city, so I’m pumped to be back in New England!

When the Celtics lost in 2023, Joe Mazzulla was pissed. He texted about it with Josh Waitzkin, a former chess prodigy whose story is told in “Searching for Bobby Fischer.” “He also knew it was time to take himself on.” @adamhimmelsbach has the story: https://t.co/ZFlfnuNIiM https://t.co/1yRsnlILhV
