Westside Neighborhoods Suffer as Reports Increase CitywideVENICE - If you think you saw more construction detritus, mounds of garbage and other material tossed on vacant lots and alleys in Venice or Palms recently, you’re probably not imagining it. In 2024, there were 1,047 reports of the nefarious practice in Venice, up 8% from the prior year, according to MyLA311 data analyzed by Crosstown. The 778 complaints in Palms represented a 27% jump over the count in 2023.

If you’re visiting Griffith Park on a weekend, pay close attention to parking signs. That’s because on Saturday and Sunday, you are much more likely to get a ticket here than anywhere else in L.A.Nearly half (48%) of the 3,676 parking citations in Griffith Park last year were handed out on a Saturday or Sunday, according to an analysis of L.A. Department of Transportation data by the nonprofit newsroom Crosstown.

If you are looking for a positive move by the city of Los Angeles in the wake of the wildfires, then consider the unexpected sector of parking enforcement: In the Pacific Palisades, just five citations were handed out in the months after the Jan. 7 blaze started. In total, vehicles in the community were ticketed 118 times from Jan. 1–Feb. 28, according to publicly available Los Angeles Department of Transportation data. Last year, 1,722 citations were dispensed in that period.
