WATERTOWN — One person is in critical but stable condition after a two-vehicle crash on State Street on Monday afternoon. City police Public Information Officer Sgt. Joseph Giaquinto said a BMW was traveling eastbound on State Street when it struck a gray SUV that was pulling out of a driveway. The driver of the SUV had to be extracted from the vehicle. Giaquinto said there are reports that the BMW was speeding and passing cars, but those allegations are still under investigation.

Two people were hurt in a two-vehicle crash on State Street Monday afternoon that required rerouting traffic in the portion between South Pleasant Street and South Indiana Avenue. Battalion Fire Chief Ron Wareham said when crews arrived on scene a little before 5 p.m. they found the two vehicles and one driver up and walking around. The other driver was trapped inside their vehicle. Debris from the crash was strewn across State Street.

WATERTOWN — Members of the Jefferson Community College’s women’s basketball team were honored by state Assemblyman Scott A. Gray on Friday with proclamations and certificates celebrating their second-place finish in the NJCAA Division III championship. Inside JCC’s gymnasium, Gray said they were there to recognize the accomplishments of the team. He called their run “outstanding.”“They overcame a lot to get to the final game,” he said.
At least 12 people detained by immigration agents at Watertown hatchery

WATERTOWN — At least a dozen people were detained Thursday by federal immigration agents at CWT Farms Hatchery. State Assemblyman Scott A. Gray confirmed the news to the Watertown Daily Times and said agents detained between 12 and 15 people. He added that an additional 12 people did not show up to the hatchery for work, presumably out of fear of being detained. About 10 people remain on staff, according to Gray. The staff are up against the clock as they have 48 hours to keep the chicks alive.

WATERTOWN — Two Watertown men were charged Tuesday after they allegedly broke into a Factory Street apartment armed with a knife and a loaded handgun. City police allege that Cayden P. Brown, 20, of 845 Starbuck Ave. Apt. 1706, and Fred J. Soluri, 21, of 26667 Boyer Circle, Evans Mills, forced entry into the apartment of Keegan M. Buzzell at 540 Factory St., Apt. 2, armed with a dagger and a loaded handgun at about 1 a.m. Tuesday.
