FORT DRUM — Fort Drum has announced that country singer Nate Smith is set to headline Mountainfest. “This year in particular is especially important because it is the 80th anniversary of the 10th Mountain Division’s assault on Riva Ridge in 1945,” Brig. New assistant principal named for Watertown High School

WATERTOWN — The Watertown City School District has announced that Ambur Misercola will be serving as the assistant principal of Watertown High School. Misercola graduated from Watertown High in 2005 as a lifelong resident before earning her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Oswego in secondary education and history. She received a master’s degree in literacy from the University at Buffalo. She began as a teacher in the district as a substitute in 2011 before earning a full-time teaching position in 2012.

District officials said in a statement that they have received reports that some students and family members have been receiving texts asking for financial support for school groups. They say those requests have not been authorized or supported by, and are not originating from the South Jefferson Central School District.
Milly Smith explains decision not run for school board reelection

WATERTOWN — Milagros C. “Milly” Smith is explaining her decision to not seek reelection to the Watertown City School District Board of Education. Smith said she turned in her petitions around April 10 and one of the pages did not have addresses for those who signed. The district clerk, Michelle Gravelle, called Smith to have her pick up the petitions and have the addresses filled in. After she picked up the petitions, Smith said she had a couple of days to reflect and she decided not to run.

WATERTOWN — In total, six people voiced either their displeasure or support of the proposed $103 million 2025-2026 Watertown City School District budget. The spending plan calls for a 2.44% tax levy increase from the previous fiscal year. Among those who spoke was Lynn Pietroski, the chief executive officer for The Arc Jefferson-St. Lawrence, which supports and has services for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Jefferson, St. Lawrence, Lewis and Oswego counties.
