GOUVERNEUR — The Gouverneur Central School District has released details of its proposed budget for the 2025-26 school year, totaling $47,840,977, an increase of $3.67 million from last year’s spending plan. The proposed budget reflects a 2.02% increase in the tax levy, translating to an additional $142,576 to be raised in local taxes. The total amount to be collected through the tax levy would be $7,208,765 if the budget is approved by voters.

POTSDAM — Downtown Potsdam is getting a culinary and entertainment boost with the arrival of three new businesses under one roof at 6 Elm St.A building that sold earlier this year will soon be home to a burrito shop, steakhouse and dance club. Brasher native Bob Pike, owner of Burrito Bob’s, recently moved his Mexican-style eatery into the former Saint Larry’s restaurant location. Pike said his lease was up on Market Street and he decided now was the time to move and expand.

HEUVELTON — Since 2002, Gracious Friends Animal Sanctuary in Heuvelton has been a lifeline for abandoned, neglected, and abused animals, but a new state law has the small operation seeking a $2 million upgrade. The sanctuary, founded more than 20 years ago by Candy and Erik Brown, provides shelter and care for a variety of animals, from dogs and cats to farm animals like horses and mules. However, as the number of animals in need rises, the sanctuary faces new challenges.
