A story in the Courier of Montgomery County has recently pointed out that in Conroe there are 19 parks, and the great majority of them are named for a geographical area or person. At 813 South First, previously known as First Street Park, you will find Booker T. Washington Park. The famous author, educator and great speaker is an iconic figure in the black community. Located at 2500 South Loop 336, local citizens will find Carl Barton Jr. Park. He was Conroe mayor from 1979 to 1989.

The University of New York Fashion Week is a program that includes an all-expense-paid trip to New York Fashion Week for fashion merchandising students in collaboration with Sam Houston State University and the Collegiate Licensing Company. Senior fashion merchandising student Carlena Blanco, in filling out her application, said she “answered questions regarding what I wanted to do with fashion in the future, and why I should be selected.”Blanco, was selected to be immersed in this opportunity.

Community Impact reports that several events have been planned in Conroe and Montgomery now and through the weekend. At the Crighton Theatre in Conroe Stage Right is offering performances of “Buddy: The Buddy Holley Story.” If you didn’t know, Holley was a famous rock musician in the 50’s.
