David Guzick, who has been chancellor of LSU Health Sciences Center Shreveport since January 2023, sent a letter of resignation Wednesday to the system Board of Supervisors, spokesman Todd Woodward confirmed to the Illuminator.

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - Shreveport firefighters put out a fire at the former Oak Meadows Apartments at 5:48 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23. SFD says this is the fifth fire at the complex they’ve put out this year, with 10 fires having occurred in the last six months. LATEST NEWSIt took 24 firefighters and 11 units to bring the blaze under control. SFD says no utility services are connected to any of the buildings.

(Louisiana Illuminator) – On his first day on the job Monday, Louisiana Department of Health Secretary Bruce Greenstein announced the launch of two initiatives – one to target Medicaid fraud and another to reduce the number of overdose deaths during pregnancy. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is developing an artificial intelligence and data analysis tool the Louisiana Department of Health will use to fight “fraud, waste and abuse,” state officials said.

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - Three men were arrested on Monday, April 21, after an attempted traffic stop turned into a chase, according to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office. Deputies tried to pull over a four-door sedan at South Lakeshore and I-220. They say the car fled westbound on I-20 before crashing near exit 5. The driver, Jefferey Moran, then reportedly exited the car and ran towards Greenwood Road. He was able to jump two fences before being captured by a CPSO deputy and a Greenwood officer.

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana Illuminator) - The Louisiana Legislature is considering several proposals that would create tax breaks and new revenue streams for college athletes and their sports programs. If passed in their current state, the proposals would exempt college athletes from income taxes on their name, image and likeness (NIL) deals and would create a new fund to give tax dollars to NCAA Division I athletics programs like LSU’s.
