A months-long art project is taking shape at Park Avenue Elementary School in the North Bellmore School District. The creation of a new mural is being spearheaded by art teacher Jillian Bock and will feature a contribution from every child in the school. The sunrise and meadow scene is being created on an upper section of wall on the first floor. At 16 feet wide and 4 feet tall, it is a sizeable piece that should bring joy to generations of students.

Name That Tune is a beloved East Meadow community event, and for the 16th year, crowds gathered last week at the East Meadow Fire Department Headquarters on East Meadow Avenue for another round of fun and music. The event is run annually by the Kiwanis Club of East Meadow. Members of the club and East Meadow residents listened to songs — old and new — and they guessed what the title was in order to win prizes. There were also raffles, a 50/50 and an array of food and drinks for everyone to enjoy.

Benjamin Thomas, the senior pastor at the Queens Church of God and a longtime resident of East Meadow, nearly died while battling Covid-19 right at the start of the coronavirus pandemic in March of 2020. The Bellmore Merrick Roller Hockey League will celebrate its 45th anniversary next week, bringing the community together to honor its rich history and the dedicated leaders who helped shape the league from the very beginning. Dave Manara, president of the league and son of one of its founders, Ted, told the Herald his dad helped form the Bellmore-Merrick Youth Association, or BMYA, in 1980.
