FLORENCE, Ky. (WXIX) - Businesses across Northern Kentucky plan to host fundraisers for the victims and survivors of the July 6 mass shooting in Florence. Seven people were shot around 3 a.m. at a home on Ridgecrest Drive by 21-year-old Chase Garvey, according to the Florence Police Department. Of those seven victims, four died: 19-year-old Delaney Eary, 20-year-old Hayden Rybicki, 44-year-old Melissa Parrett, and 20-year-old Shane Miller.

NEW RICHMOND, Ohio (WXIX) - Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced Tuesday a multi-million dollar grant that will help transform communities along the state’s Appalachian Riverfront as part of Ohio’s Wonderful Waterfront initiative. Approximately $80 million in funding from the Appalachian Community Grant Program was awarded to several shovel-ready and planning projects, and the Village of Ripley will be awarded $16.3 million of that total.

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - The City of Cincinnati has received a multi-million dollar federal grant intended to help fix and prevent landslides throughout a number of neighborhoods. There are more than 7,000 retaining walls that stretch along about 173 miles of roadway in Cincinnati, according to the city’s existing infrastructure report. But over the last couple of years, ongoing construction combined with rain has made many of the city’s hills vulnerable to landslides, despite having these walls.

TURTLECREEK TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) - A family and their pets safely escaped a fire in Warren County early Thursday, but their home has heavy damage, fire officials say. Turtleceek Township fire crews remain on the scene putting out hot spots and investigating the cause in the 16000 block of State Route 123, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. Ohio 123 is shut down in the area until further notice. This is the latest in a string of fires in bitterly cold temperatures this week.
