The Carlisle Area School Board Thursday adopted a $118.1 million budget for 2025-26 that includes a 3% real estate tax hike. Board members agreed to increase the tax rate from the current 16.8633 mills to 17.3691 mills. The owner of an average median home, assessed at $179,500, will pay an additional $90.79. The tax increase will generate about $1.69 million. Administrators have projected about $117,072,987 in total revenue compared to anticipated expenditures estimated at $118,148,801.

South Middleton School District will receive almost $7,000 in grant money over the next three years to further enhance the autism support classroom it opened last August at W.G. Rice Elementary School. The school board recently approved an agreement with Andrew’s Gift, a Harrisburg-based nonprofit organization that provides grants to schools to support programs for students with autism.

A land development plan has been filed with the Cumberland County planning department to install drive-thru aisles at the Rise Medical Marijuana Dispensary at 1186 Harrisburg Pike, Middlesex Township. In the plan filed on Monday, Hambrecht Oleson Design Inc. of Ridgewood, New Jersey, proposes the redevelopment of two existing lots at the dispensary site, according to information posted on the county website.

Carlisle Barracks will conduct its annual full-scale readiness training exercise from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. next Tuesday, according to a press release. “The realistic exercise will incorporate simulated emergency scenarios,” post spokesman Curt Keester said. These scenarios could include loud sounds and a coordinated response from Carlisle Barracks, the Army War College and Dunham U.S. Army Health Clinic personnel.

What a difference a few years make. Griffin Pak noticed it right away the day the Carlisle High School students met their pen pals at Hamilton Elementary School. “Every kid has a smartphone now,” he said. “It was a little shocking. I know times change.”Only a short while ago, Pak was a fifth-grade student on the pathway to middle school and beyond. This past spring, he was a high school junior involved in the National English Honor Society.
