His patron, George Herbert, the fifth Earl of Carnarvon, and an avid collector of Egyptian antiquities, told Carter he was cutting off his funding after the season.

    Though the rules have changed, the sun has not set on two conditional use applications to bring solar energy facilities to farmland in West Pennsboro Township. Applications for Dark Star Energy LLC and the Barnstable Solar Farm were filed before late April when the township supervisors approved an amendment to the zoning ordinance prohibiting the development of such facilities in the agricultural district, Township Secretary Evelyn Swartz said last week.

    Last year, the Court Collections Unit of Cumberland County brought in almost $6 for every dollar spent in support of its operations, unit supervisor Toye Smith reported in late May. The goal of her department is to establish payment terms with criminal defendants to enforce and maximize the collection of court-ordered costs, fines, fees and restitution. Smith was briefing the county commissioners on statistics from 2024. Unit operations last year cost the county about $758,542, she said.
