RICHLAND, Miss. (WLBT) - It has been a week since a man was shot and killed in a deadly officer-involved shooting in Richland. It happened last Thursday. Rankin County Coroner David Ruth identified Abdullah Chetin as the person shot and killed by police. JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Sweeping federal cuts are impacting dozens of students here in the Capital City. For some students at Tougaloo College when they enroll next fall, they won’t have their scholarships. It’s all due to funding cuts at the National Institute of Health, resulting in research grants being cancelled. In all, 36 students will no longer be able to receive scholarships through the Jackson Heart Study Scholars program.

RICHLAND, Miss. (WLBT) - We now know the name of the Richland police officer who was injured while responding to scene of a man barricaded inside a RV. Wesley Skinner is continuing to recover after undergoing multiple surgeries. Skinner is a narcotics investigator with the Richland Police Department. He suffered an open ankle fracture, a tibial plateau fracture, a dislocated hip, an acetabulum fracture, and a fracture in his lumbar spine.

(WLBT) - A person is dead after an attempted traffic stop led to a subject barricading himself in an RV, prompting a “standoff situation.”This according to the Richland Police Department. A multitude of officers responded to a “standoff situation” on Highway 49 in Richland city limits Thursday night. As of 6:33 a.m. on Friday, the scene was clear after an overnight investigation.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A murder suspect who was on the run for nearly a decade has finally been caught and is behind bars. The Jackson Police Department arrested 48-year-old Calvin Horton. He is being charged with murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. On Friday, he was denied bond.
