State employees and teachers now have paid parental leave. Gov. Kay Ivey signed SB 199, known as the Alabama Public Employee Paid Parental Leave Act of 2025, into law Wednesday. Sponsored by Sen. Vivian Figures and Rep. Ginny Shaver, the law provides paid parental leave for eligible public employees.

An Opelika man has died from being stabbed and deputies say his roommate has been charged in his death. The incident happened early Sunday morning around 2:34 a.m. in the 900 block of Lee Road 147 in Beauregard. Once deputies arrived, they found 41-year-old Cory Vernon Rogers dead inside the home with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds in his chest, side and back area.
