(WOOD) — A proposed city ordinance in Kalamazoo looks to make it easier for officers to tow vehicles involved in mobile nuisance parties known as “X-trains.”The change would allow the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety to impound a vehicle used in a nuisance party later, when it’s easier for police to tow it. Officers will send a warning letter to the registered vehicle owner. If that warning is violated within six months, the car will be on the list to be impounded.

MI National Guard helps clear 1,500 miles of road after ice storm up north

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — More than 1,500 miles of road have been cleared in Northern Michigan after a major ice storm, the Michigan National Guard said in a recent social media post. More than 870 soldiers and airman were deployed as part of recovery operations and worked alongside first responders and agencies. A National Guardsman who deployed for hurricane cleanup in North Carolina was mobilized again to communities up north.

(WOOD) — Three Western Michigan University international students are part of a growing lawsuit coming in the wake of federal officials terminating records in a system that tracks their enrollment status. Students from Missouri, Ohio, Wisconsin and Michigan schools are part of a federal lawsuit filed in the Western District of Michigan on April 14 against the Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Immigration Enforcement.
Memorial held for man hit, killed in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Family and friends gathered Sunday to remember Dominick Yadloczky, who was hit and killed by a car last month. More than 50 gathered in downtown Kalamazoo for the memorial. Police say Yadloczky was running in the traffic lanes of S. Sprinkle Road near Covington Road in Kalamazoo when he was hit on March 26. He died at the scene. He was 22, according to his family. On Sunday, family and friends shared memories of Yadloczky.

(WOOD) — Hundreds of people gathered in Portage and Grand Rapids Saturday to protest actions taken by President Donald Trump’s administration, joining a wave of demonstrations across the country. In Portage, more than 230 people lined Westnedge Avenue for a protest similar to a “Hands Off!” demonstration earlier this month. Demonstrators waved signs directed against the administration’s policies and cuts by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.
Muskegon Township millage would support police, fire departments

MUSKEGON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Muskegon Township leaders hope voters will pass a proposed millage next month that will fund the police and fire departments. The request of 5.25 mills comes as a long-standing millage of 2.6802 expired this year. Funding for the police and fire department has been drawn from the township’s general fund. Without a new millage, staff worry operations that rely on that fund could be impacted.
