KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A long-planned housing project for people in addiction recovery could be at risk after federal budget cuts. Kalamazoo County commissioners may allocate $2 million to help fill the gap. Since 2018, developers have been working to address a critical housing need in Kalamazoo. Edison Community Partners has been working with Kalamazoo County agencies, city leaders and others to bring Kalamazoo Recovery Housing, or Kalrecovery, to reality.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The city of Kalamazoo might be the host of a new youth sports facility. Discover Kalamazoo shared the recommended location with city commissioners Monday night. The site sits between US-131 and Drake Road — right outside of Oshtemo Township. Jane Gosch with Discover Kalamazoo said the location is within a 15-minute drive of several hotels around the county and is near a public transit line.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — New meters could be coming to Kalamazoo streets along with changes to free and paid parking. They’re some of the changes under the 2025 parking update presented to Kalamazoo City Commission Monday night. City staff and consultants preparing the updates said it all comes down to adjusting the rules and equipment to better align with parking demand. Paid parking could be changed into free parking on parts of East Michigan Avenue.

PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — While a fire that destroyed a market near Battle Creek remains under investigation, officials say they have spoken to kids who were playing with fireworks nearby. There were two fires at Bailey Park Thriftway on Capital Avenue near Eaton Street in Pennfield Township Saturday, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says. Around 6:30 p.m., firefighters were sent to a report of an explosion and dumpster fire. They quickly doused it and left.
