Pre-trial hearing held Tuesday for Renville County murder suspect

(Olivia MN-) A pre-trial hearing took place in Renville County District Court Tuesday morning for a Renville man accused of murdering another man nearly 4 years ago. Last fall the Minnesota Supreme Court ordered 28-year-old Julian Valdez be retried for the shooting death of 31-year-old Pablo Gutierrez. Valdez was convicted of killing the Renville man outside Valdez' home in August of 2021 after he said Gutierrez was assaulting his step brother.
Barbara Carr begins as Director of Kandiyohi County Economic Development

(Willmar MN-) A new era in economic development begins today in Kandiyohi County. Barbara Carr begins her tenure as the county's new economic development chief. Steve Gardner, Chair of the Kandiyohi County Board and of the Kandiyohi County Economic Development Commission Joint Powers Board says Carr was chosen over current KCED Interim Director Michelle Marotzke and Edgar Cabezas after final interviews March 21st.
Woman hurt in crash between two SUVs in Cokato

(Cokato MN-) An Annandale woman was hurt in a crash between two SUVs in Cokato Tuesday morning. The state patrol says it was reported at 9:49 a.m. on Highway 12 at Jackson Avenue. A Hyundai SUV driven by 32-year-old Kelsey Zieman of Annandale was westbound on 12 and a Chevy Trailblazer driven by 41-year-old Israel Salinas-Cruz of Willmar was eastbound when they collided. Salinaz-Cruz was not injured, but Zieman was taken to the Buffalo Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Man hurt after vehicle strikes deer near Roscoe

(Roscoe MN-) A Cold Spring man was hurt when his pickup struck a deer near Cold Spring Tuesday night. The state patrol says it was reported at 8:36 p.m. on Highway 23 between Paynesville and Roscoe. 77-year-old Eugene Wold was traveling northbound when he struck the deer. Wold was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Willmar man arrested after drunk driving chase, crash with squad car

(Willmar MN-) A Willmar man is jailed after he allegedly drove drunk, fled police and crashed into a squad car in the process. Police say at 3:10 p.m. Friday they responded to a report of an intoxicated driver in the area of the Highway 71/23 bypass and 15th Avenue Northeast. Police located the pickup, driven by 70-year-old Terry Mikes of Willmar, on Highway 12, attempting to get onto the northbound bypass.
Crime spree leads to property damage in Dassel

(Dassel MN-) The Meeker County Sheriff's Office is looking for the public's help arresting whomever is responsible for a crime spree in The City of Dassel. They say from Saturday through Monday they received 12 calls related to damage to property, break-ins, suspicious people walking in town and a burglary alarm related to the property damage reports in the City of Dassel. Many businesses in the downtown area were damaged along with a vehicle on the south end of town.
Three injured in crash north of Paynesville

(Paynesville MN-) Three people were injured in a crash Sunday in Stearns County. The sheriff's department says at 5:47 p.m. Sunday they received a report of a two-vehicle crash, with injuries, at the intersection of County Road 16 and County Road 130, about 2 and a half miles north of Paynesville. A 2008 Dodge Avenger, driven by 55-year-old John Weber of Hawick, was southbound on Co. Rd. 16 and failed to stop for the stop sign.
Cycle driver hurt in crash near Holdingford

(Holdingford MN-) A weekend crash injured a motorcycle rider in Stearns County. The sheriff's department says it was reported at 7:10 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of County Road 9 and 440th Street, about 2 miles north of the City of Holdingford. A motorcycle driven by 47-year-old Jason Klein of Holdingford was southbound on County Road 9 negotiating the curve just north of 440th Street when it entered the west ditch and lost control.
Trial for Willmar murder suspect begins Monday

(Willmar MN-) A jury trial for a Willmar murder suspect begins Monday in Kandiyohi County District Court. 28-year-old Lateef Mahaffey of Benson is accused of selling drugs to a Willmar man who was later found dead in his bathtub in September 2022. The trial for co-defendant, Mercedes Carpenter of Maynard is schedule for June 23rd.
