WILLMAR — With spring dances and proms just around the corner, Advocacy & Inclusion Matter of West Central MN is playing the role of fairy godmother for the fifth year as it opens Glam Shoppe at Uptown Willmar. The store inside the Willmar mall sells gently used and new, donated formal dresses at a low cost, providing one of the few local places people will be able to purchase dresses for formal occasions. The reduced prices have helped many young women realize their prom dreams.

MARSHALL — Growing up, Angie Guptill, who was raised in Sleepy Eye and now lives in Canby , had two passions: animals and art. At first, Guptill decided to become a large animal veterinarian, with the goal of working with the horses and cows she loved. But once she enrolled at Ridgewater College in Willmar, Guptill soon discovered a science-based career might not be the best option.

OLIVIA — In a building that is an antique itself, Patina Pickers has brought new life not only to the old home of Dirks Furniture but to downtown Olivia as a whole. As curious shoppers come visit the store, they are also bringing some much-needed vitality to Olivia's stressed retail sector. "The businesses across the street said they've never seen so much traffic, and it is so great to see," said Dan Johnson, a local resident whose wife is a vendor at Patina Pickers.
