    MEMPHIS, Tenn — The Smiley family has started a GoFundMe for Thaddeus Smiley, who died after trying to rescue his nephew from drowning in the Wolf River. Javarious Smiley, his brother who started the GoFundMe on behalf of the family, says Thaddeus made the "ultimate sacrifice" trying to help his 10-year-old nephew who was struggling in the water. "Without hesitation, he dove in to help — because that’s who he was. Brave. Selfless. Compassionate," says Javarious in the GoFundMe description.

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — On Tuesday, June 3, a woman died after a car crash in Tunica, Mississippi. At approximately 9:45 a.m., the Tunica County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call in reference to a motor vehicle accident involving one vehicle on Prichard Road, officials said. The sheriff's office said the vehicle, which had two people inside, was severely damaged. One female occupant, Mya Jackson, 22, was treated on scene, but died from her injuries, officials said.

Students can sign up for camps to learn about agriculture, barbering, culinary, drone coding, hair braiding certification, and natural hair licensure.     MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Board of Directors of Mid-South Food Bank announced Monday that Scott Fortin will be the organization’s new president and CEO. Fortin will take on the role following former CEO Dr. Cathy Pope's resignation in November 2024 after leading the non-profit since 2019. Fortin served as interim President and CEO since she stepped down and was Chief Operations Officer since 2019. Officials said he provided steady leadership during a period of transition.
