    A wave of sound, made by 125 voices and the musicians in the Bangor Symphony Orchestra washed over concertgoers Sunday at the Collins Center for the Arts in Orono and embraced them in a comforting hug provided by Johannes Brahams’ requiem. The near-capacity crowd on Sunday rose from its seats and cheered the singers, orchestra and soloists, Aundi Marie Moore and Isaac Bray, in appreciation.

    The tale of one Maine girl’s heroic efforts to keep lighthouse lamps burning during a horrific storm in the mid-19th century is marvelously and magically brought to life by Penobscot Theatre Company in “Matinicus: A Lighthouse Play” at the Bangor Opera House. Abigail Burgess is vividly portrayed by West Coast actor Katie Peabody in this one-woman show written by Jenny Connell Davis and directed by Julie Arnold Lisnet.

    The past, present and future of classical music was on display Sunday at the Bangor Symphony Orchestra’s concert at the Collins Center for the Arts in Orono in a rich tapestry of sound that won’t be forgotten any time soon. The eclectic program, titled “Pride to Prejudice: Shostakovich 5” and led by Lucas Richman, music director and conductor, featured music from this century and the last as young musicians performed alongside seasoned professionals.
