A burglary suspect was caught in the act Thursday night, according to the Florence Police Department. Police say officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 1600 block of State Street. When officers arrived, they located a suspect who matched the description from the caller walking through the back of the property. Police say he was identified as 42-year-old John David Baskins. Officers detained Baskins and, during a search, recovered multiple burglar tools that were in his possession.

A Bridgeport man is facing multiple charges as the result of a child exploitation investigation. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, 28-year-old Payton Dean Corbitt is charged with three counts of dissemination or public display of child sexual abuse material. Special agents assigned to ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations, along with deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, arrested Corbitt Tuesday.

A Huntsville man is facing multiple charges after a shooting. According to the Huntsville Police Department, 23-year-old Mario Vontrell Thomas is charged with one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, two counts of discharging a firearm into an unoccupied automobile, and ex-felon in possession of a firearm. About 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a report of possible gunfire in the 100 block of Properzi Way.

Four people were rescued Thursday from Cypress Creek, according to Florence Fire & Rescue. The fire department says several people were attempting to float down the creek on inner tubes when they lost contact with the tubes and became stranded in a faster current due to the elevated water level. Florence Fire & Rescue launched one of its swift water rafts and successfully retrieved the four stranded people.

A Cullman teen is dead following a two-vehicle crash Wednesday, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. ALEA says the 18-year-old was fatally injured when the 2005 Falcon 200 motorcycle the teen was operating collided head-on with a 2002 Ford F-350. After the collision, the teen was thrown from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash occurred about 4:23 p.m. on U.S. 278 near Cullman County 400, approximately five miles west of Cullman, in Cullman County.
