WAYNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Wayne County officials are warning residents of a scam where a caller claims to be a sheriff in an effort to get peoples money. On Tuesday, the Wayne County District Attorney, A.G. Howell, announced that multiple residents from Wayne County reported getting phone calls from someone claiming to be a Wayne County Sheriff. Authorities say the caller tells the resident they missed jury duty and if they don’t pay $3,000, they will be arrested.

Police say on Monday, they were alerted to an 18-year-old, Riley Young, who was messaging a 13-year-old boy through Snapchat, allegedly trying to make a plan to kill people. Authorities explain that Young was taken into custody after a thorough investigation.
