On March 26, the Marine Mammal Stranding Center received an urgent call about a gray seal pup entangled in fishing line in North Beach. Since his subsequent rescue by MMSC staff, the male seal has been at the nonprofit’s facility in Brigantine, where he is currently “doing well,” according to Stranding Coordinator Jay Pagel. When they found patient MMSC-25-038, staff members said, “he was wrapped in a small section of monofilament line, possibly a gill net.

Mayor Joseph Mancini led the swearing in for two new officers of the Long Beach Township Police Department at the start of the Monday, April 7 meeting of the board of commissioners in the municipality. Trevor Gouveia and Robert Madison took the oath to serve their community surrounded by family, friends and fellow members of the department.

Lehigh University students and alumni, The Van Dyk Group on Long Beach Island, Ocean Township’s Environmental Commission and the Pebble Beach Homeowners Association are teaming up for this spring’s “Lehigh in Action” cleanup events, hosted by Deidre Martin, Lehigh Class of 2006. Members of the Lehigh community and local residents are invited “to join hands in preserving the beauty of LBI and Ocean Township’s shorelines ahead of the summer season,” Martin explained.
