Chef Gary Usher has closed Kala in Manchester after six years due to a downturn in trade. In a statement on Instagram, Usher said: “It’s with a heavy heart that I announce the immediate closure of Kala. I’m not really sure how to explain why we’ve closed other than we weren’t busy enough to cover our costs. I really really want to blame the economy & the pandemic. I really want to say the rising costs have made it impossible.

Vagabond Wines is set to open a flagship wine bar in the former site of Channel 4’s First Dates restaurant in London’s St Paul’s this August. Taking over Paternoster Chophouse, a D&D restaurant until its closure and subsequent relocation in late 2020, the new Vagabond bar will feature a selection of over 110 wines by the glass and seating for more than 250 guests.

The Hoxton has made its long-awaited Scottish debut in Edinburgh as the open house hotel brand nears 20 sites. Plans for the 214-bedroom hotel in Haymarket were announced back in 2022, with an initial opening date slated for summer 2023. The Hoxton, Edinburgh is spread across 11 Georgian-inspired terraced townhouses split between both sides of Grosvenor Street. There are nine categories of bedrooms, ranging from ‘snug singles’ and ‘bunk’ rooms to the larger ‘biggy’ rooms.
