Hillsborough County’s free initiative to curb mosquito populations

By Justin SeecharanResidents of Hillsborough County were buzzing with excitement on Saturday. People stopped by Northdale Park and Recreation Center for the county’s last giveaway in 2024 to pick up an all-natural mosquito preventative: Gambusia Holbrooki, otherwise known as the eastern mosquitofish. The fish in question is a small, native freshwater fish that eats mosquito eggs and larvae. Hillsborough’s free giveaways happen annually.

A new era of Student Government (SG) just arrived. In a quick five-minute ceremony, student body president-elect Suryakanth Prasad Gottipati and vice president-elect Sumit Subhash Jadhav were sworn in on Wednesday afternoon. Related: USF student body president and vice president-elect sworn in:Their term will start on May 6 and last for one year. Gabrielle Fuchslocher, Supreme Court chief justice, and Vincent Milianta, senior justice, administered the oath for Gottipati and Jadhav, respectively.

USF Student Government senate passes resolution encouraging administration to divest by one vote

In a narrow decision, the Student Government (SG) Senate passed the “USF Investment and Divestment Visibility” Tuesday evening to encourage USF to divest from certain companies and publish its investment portfolio. Senate President Fariah Ansari was the tie-breaking vote to bring the final count to 16 votes in favor and 15 against.

Student Government (SG) President Cesar Esmeraldi posted a video on both his and the official SG Instagram page urging senators to vote against a divestment resolution that will be voted on Tuesday night. The “Divest from Israel Resolution” will be introduced during the SG Senate meeting and voted on by the senators.

Sharing 50 pairs of shaded glasses, around 200 students gathered to take a peek at the solar eclipse on Monday afternoon. Although Tampa did not see the full eclipse, meaning the moon would completely cover the sun, a curious crowd still flooded the Marshall Student Center (MSC) lawn. “Breaking Bad” star Giancarlo Esposito to speak at USF

Giancarlo Esposito, known for his roles in “Breaking Bad,” “Better Call Saul” and “The Mandalorian,” will speak at this semester’s University Lecture Series (ULS) Tuesday night. The event will take place at the Marshall Student Center (MSC) Grand Ballroom. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m., with the lecture set to begin at 8 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. ULS is hosted by the Center for Student Involvement and is funded by the Activities and Service Fees in all USF students’ tuition.
