Hustle culture blurs the line between productivity and toxicity and everyone around me seems to be motivated by ‘the grind.’ This ideology is spread on social media and advocates for people to constantly work at succeeding in their personal and professional lives. It’s hard enough being a corporate-conforming girlie. Even though I plan on one day being a court reporter and it excites me, I don’t want my work life to define me. Yet, it’s hard when ‘grind culture’ is rampant on social media.

“ هل أنت جاد ,” my co-worker says to my boss. The bagel shop just finished its rush hour, and my co-workers fill the empty building with their Arabic conversation. All I understand is their body language: mouths curving into smiles and bodies leaning back to release a laugh. My white girl, Florida-raised self, has no idea what they’re saying. But that doesn’t stop me from trying to learn. For me, being open to learning forces me to grow as a person and think critically.

USF history professor Michael Decker follows a strict no-artificial intelligence (AI) policy in his classroom. The one time his students were exposed to AI in the classroom was to critique AI-generated responses to their midterm exam prompt. “I wanted them to think critically about the strengths and weaknesses of these machine-generated responses and to judge it as if they were in my shoes and grading such a submission,” Decker said.

After a long workout, would you want to be able to take a nap right then and there? Students can do that in nap pods at The Well. The pods were introduced as a way to help students’ who have trouble sleeping by offering them a place to take short naps during their day on campus, according to Recreation & Wellness spokesperson Brooke Rustad Dinkel.
