Hustle culture blurs the line between productivity and toxicity and everyone around me seems to be motivated by ‘the grind.’ This ideology is spread on social media and advocates for people to constantly work at succeeding in their personal and professional lives. It’s hard enough being a corporate-conforming girlie. Even though I plan on one day being a court reporter and it excites me, I don’t want my work life to define me. Yet, it’s hard when ‘grind culture’ is rampant on social media.

“ هل أنت جاد ,” my co-worker says to my boss. The bagel shop just finished its rush hour, and my co-workers fill the empty building with their Arabic conversation. All I understand is their body language: mouths curving into smiles and bodies leaning back to release a laugh. My white girl, Florida-raised self, has no idea what they’re saying. But that doesn’t stop me from trying to learn. For me, being open to learning forces me to grow as a person and think critically.

USF’s Interfraternity Council released (IFC) a statement Tuesday night condemning actions of sexual assault “in light of recent events,” according to an Instagram post from the council. “We stand with the survivor who was affected in this incident,” the post read. “The member who committed this despicable act does not represent the values and morals of IFC.”USF’s IFC is an organization composed of 15 fraternity chapters at the university, according to its website.

The absence of crossing guards on campus is causing some student drivers and pedestrians to worry about traffic safety. Senior information science major Ryan Baltodano said the last time he saw crossing guards on campus was at the beginning of the fall semester. Baltodano said the officers are beneficial to managing student traffic safely. “Sometimes, when it comes to the right of way and students are late for class, they’ll disregard other people,” he said.
