Canine court will no longer have St. Catharines city councillors acting as judge and jury. City council has opted to appoint an outside hearing officer to handle appeals when a dog is designated vicious by the city clerk. Until now, appeals have been heard by the city’s canine control committee, made up of three councillors and members of the city clerk’s office.

St. Catharines Mayor Mat Siscoe did nothing wrong when he endorsed Ontario Premier Doug Ford in the February provincial election, the city’s integrity commissioner has found. Siscoe endorsed the premier and attended an election campaign stop in Niagara Falls on Jan. 31 with Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati and Welland Mayor Frank Campion.
