LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Here’s an event to put on the calendar for later this month. The Great Strides Walk is May 17 at Buddy Holly Park. That is the largest national fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Cystic Fibrosis is a progressive disease that mainly affects the lungs. The walk brings families and supporters together to raise money for research to find a cure. Scientists are getting closer all the time, at least finding ways for patients to live much longer and more normal lives.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Sad news. We’ve lost a man who was perhaps the most recognized veteran in this area. Phil Crenshaw was on the first South Plains Honor Flight in 2012. He was 90 then and we’ve been following his birthdays and other milestones ever since. Nearly 100 veterans went on that first flight to Washington D.C. to see the memorials built in their honor. Phil was the chaplain on the trip.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Texas Roadhouse isn’t regularly open for lunch but it was today and it was busy. The Texas staple hosted its annual Children’s Miracle Network fundraiser, beginning at 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.Before the lunch crowd arrived, everyone gathered outside the restaurant for new instructions. See, this time, some miracle kids joined the event wearing their superhero capes, ready to hear the gameplan, literally, for playing games before lunch.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Millions worldwide are grieving the death of Pope Francis, leader of the Catholic Church who suffered a stroke and heart failure yesterday morning. Traditionally, his passing marks the beginning of a period of nine days of mourning. Today, Italian officials paid their respects by viewing his body in a wooden casket in the Casa Santa Maria chapel in the Vatican City. Tomorrow, his body will be moved to St. Peter’s Basilica for public viewing there.
