Chesterfield Township earns Tree City USA recognition

Chesterfield Township has earned Tree City USA recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation. The community was recently named a Tree City USA site for 2024 in honor of its commitment to planting, growing and maintaining trees to benefit the community after being ineligible for the designation in recent years. Efforts to regain the title were spurred by the reestablishment of the township’s Beautification Commission and Tree Board in 2023.

A controversial plan for a new auto auction center in Chesterfield Township was stalled by the planning commission on April 1. The Chesterfield Township Planning Commission voted April 1 to deny a request for special land use from Bates Road Development Co. LLC to create the center on the northeast corner of 25 Mile and Bates roads.

Road crews are rolling out the orange barrels for another season of construction in Macomb County. The Michigan Department of Transportation will begin resurfacing 5 miles of M-3 (Gratiot Avenue/23 Mile Road) as soon as Thursday. The project spans from Sandpiper Drive in Clinton Township to Interstate 94 in Chesterfield Township and is expected to be finished by the end of July.
Candidate filing deadline nears

Those interested in running for a local office this election cycle have a few weeks left to file the necessary paperwork. The deadline to submit nominating petitions and affidavits of identity for partisan and nonpartisan candidates is 4 p.m. April 22. Written withdrawal requests for partisan and nonpartisan candidates are due by 4 p.m. April 25. In New Baltimore, six offices are up for election this year, including three city council seats. All three seats are four-year terms.
More special events returning to New Baltimore in 2025

Several special events are scheduled to return to New Baltimore in the upcoming spring and summer months. The New Baltimore City Council recently approved six special event permit applications submitted by local organizations and the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. All six applications were unanimously approved at a March 24 meeting. Council member Jacob Dittrich was absent. Here’s a look at the upcoming events.

Carman Conforti was quite diligent in justifying Trump’s actions. Sierra opening new store in Chesterfield Township

Sierra, the off-price outdoor retailer, is set to open a new store in Chesterfield Township this week. The company will open the doors to its eighth Michigan location on Saturday in the Waterside Marketplace shopping center near Gratiot Avenue and 23 Mile Road. As part of the TJ Maxx family of brands, Sierra offers top brands at lower prices than department and specialty stores, according to the company. The new store will be Sierra’s third in metro Detroit.
State Rep. Jaime Greene introduces legislation honoring Michigan veterans

State Rep. Jaime Greene, R-Richmond, recently introduced two pieces of legislation to honor the service and sacrifice of Michigan’s veterans. House Bill 4279 would establish an apprenticeship program for Michigan Army National Guard and Air National Guard service members, while House Bill 4278 would officially designate Michigan as a Purple Heart State.
