    NORFOLK — A mountain lion was spotted within Norfolk city limits over the weekend. Sam Wilson, furbearer program manager with the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission, said the sighting had been confirmed. A conservation officer and biologist with the Norfolk office of Game & Parks responded to a report of a mountain lion within city limits late Saturday night and subsequently confirmed the animal’s presence through tracks it had left in the snow, Wilson said.

    Two incumbents defeated two former Norfolk City Council members during Tuesday’s election. Kory Hildebrand and Frank Arens were able to claim victory over challengers who both had multiple years of experience serving the City of Norfolk. In Ward 1, Hildebrand scored 1,195 votes compared with 1,068 votes garnered by challenger Dale Coy. Coy had served two terms on the city council from 2006 until his resignation to join the city staff in 2014.

    A “first-of-its-kind” foundation that has quietly supported Norfolk Catholic Schools since the early 1970s is maintaining its mission after more than five decades of existence. The Norfolk Catholic Schools Foundation presented school leaders with an $87,750 check on Friday night. The money is a “true-up” donation and represents only a portion of the funds given to the school throughout the year.

The Valentine golf invite was called early after the tournament director was informed that a mountain lion was captured on a cellular game camera on the golf course. All play was suspended and all players and spectators were brought back to the clubhouse. #nebpreps
