BT YOUNG Scientist winner Seán O’Sullivan will represent Limerick and Ireland at the EU Contest for Young Scientists in Katowice, Poland, this week. The Coláiste Chiaráin Croom student’s project ‘VerifyMe’, which won this year’s national competition, will be on display again as part of the competition, which runs from September 9 to 15. Taoiseach Simon Harris met with Seán at Government Buildings in Dublin before he headed off on his travels to Poland, wishing him luck at the European competition.

A LIMERICK woman has successfully completed the ACORNS programme, an initiative designed to support female entrepreneurs living in rural Ireland. Theresa Sheehy, of Theresa’s Country Supplies, successfully completed the programme, and has encouraged other women to get involved in the free business development programme.

TWO members of Lero, the Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre for Software, headquartered at the University of Limerick, have been announced as winners at this year’s International Business Awards. Nicola Corless, communications and marketing manager at Lero, and Professor Martin Glavin, a Lero-funded investigator, were presented with the prestigious gongs at the 21st annual International Business Awards.

ONE LIMERICK-based community company has taken the decision to log out of its X (formerly Twitter) account for the final time due to “an alarming increase in hate speech, abusive commentary, and the spread of misinformation”. PAUL Partnership made what is deemed the “difficult” decision this past week, saying that recent developments on X “made it clear that the platform no longer aligns with our core values”.

Kevin Quaid is organising Walk for Brú, a charitable stroll in aid of Brú Columbanus in Cork, a facility that offers family members of people who are seriously ill a place to stay while their loved ones are in hospital.
