AbstractExperts from 18 consortia are collaborating on the Human Reference Atlas (HRA) which aims to map the 37 trillion cells in the healthy human body. Information relevant for HRA construction and usage is held by experts, published in scholarly papers, and captured in experimental data. However, these data sources use different metadata schemas and cannot be cross-searched efficiently.

AbstractMultiplexed antibody-based imaging enables the detailed characterization of molecular and cellular organization in tissues. Advances in the field now allow high-parameter data collection (>60 targets); however, considerable expertise and capital are needed to construct the antibody panels employed by these methods.

Data types, organs and technologiesSince the second quarter of 2023, HuBMAP datasets using 18 different analytical technologies or assay types have been publicly available (Figs. 1a and 2). These encompass 1,672 publicly available datasets from regions with no histopathologic abnormality from 14 organs across 180 donors. Protocols were optimized to minimize the ischaemia time of healthy donors. All published data are freely available via the HuBMAP portal (https://portal.hubmapconsortium.org).

AbstractMore than 150 scientists from 17 consortia are collaborating on an international project to build a Human Reference Atlas, which maps all 37 trillion cells in the healthy adult human body. The initial release of this atlas provided hierarchical lists of the anatomical structures, cell types, and biomarkers in 11 organs.
