COMSTOCK PARK, Mich — Fire crews are working to extinguish a fire at a Comstock Park business. The fire started around 5 p.m. Wednesday in the 4000 block of West River Drive. The Alpine Township Fire Department told 13 ON YOUR SIDE that multiple fire departments are responding, and Plainfield Township is the main department handling the call. The thick, black smoke could be seen for miles. 13 ON YOUR SIDE has a crew headed to the scene. We'll share updates as soon as we learn more.
Kalamazoo Police share video of 'person of interest' in fatal weekend shooting

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Detectives in Kalamazoo shared a 30-second video of a person they need help identifying in connection to a weekend homicide. Thanks to tips, authorities identified another person of interest - a man wearing blue - and that person has already been interviewed. Police said they don't need additional information about him. Now, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety's top priority is identifying the man in a red hooded sweatshirt and a black beanie.
Ferris State men's basketball coach resigns; Accepts new D1 coaching job

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — Ferris State University's men's head basketball coach is leaving after 12 seasons on the job. Andy Bronkema announced his resignation Monday. But he won't be going far: Bronkema accepted a NCAA D1 head coaching position at Central Michigan Univeristy. Bronkema led the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time in the last 11 years, and earned National Coach of the Year in 2018.
Michigan Gas Utilities crews wrapping up service restoration after major outage

ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — Most homes in Allegan County should have their gas utility service restored after a days-long outage impacted thousands. A Michigan Department of Natural Resources contractor struck a major gas pipeline on April 9, knocking out utility service for more than 5,200 Michigan Gas Utilities customers in the Allegan County area. The transmission pipeline operator, TC Energy, fixed the damage and restored service on April 11.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The Battle Creek Police Department said a reckless driving spree ended in a Grand Rapids man crashing his minivan into a house Friday morning. During the early morning hours, someone called 911 to report a silver minivan driving erratically in Springfield. The caller told dispatchers the minivan ran stop signs and red lights near Lafayette Avenue and North 20th Street before it went eastbound on Lafayette toward Battle Creek.

Muskegon Heights Police: Two teen boys shot Monday night

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. — Two teenagers were sent to the hospital Monday evening after getting shot in Muskegon Heights. The Muskegon Heights Police Department said just after 10 p.m. Monday, someone called 911 to report gunshots in the area of Hoyt Street and East Sherman Boulevard. When officers made it to the scene, they found two teenage boys who had been shot. Emergency crews took them to a hospital for their non-life-threatening injuries.

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. — A 62-year-old Comstock Park man will serve nearly 25 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting children, federal authorities said. Jose Montoya is living in the United States illegally, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan Andrew Birge said, and he expects ICE to deport him to Mexico following his prison term.
