Overland Park spending $30M on non-chip seal road resurfacing this year. Is your street on the list?

On top of the already approved slate of annual chip seal work, Overland Park will also use other road resurfacing methods, including mill and overlay and ultrathin bonded asphalt, to preserve and rehabilitate other streets in 2025. All told, the work planned for this year will cover nearly 90 lane miles of city streets for a total price tag of roughly $30 million. Find the full map here.

An unnamed Fortune 500 financial technology company is looking to open a new regional hub at Overland Park’s Aspiria campus, and the firm is looking for a boost from the city with a partial property tax rebate. The company, given the code name “Project Turtle” in city documents, intends to lease out more than 400,000 square feet of existing office space on the mixed-use Aspiria campus for the 2,000 employees the company expects to have on-site by spring 2030.

A local student is a standout player on the cricket pitch, and he hopes to see more people take an interest in the sport. Raahul Aravind, a junior at Blue Valley North High School, said he started playing cricket as a kid casually with a plastic bat. As he got older, though, he got more serious about the sport and eventually joined an academy team in the area through the Kansas Youth Cricket Academy at age 11. Aravind said he found that the sport suits him well and allows him to express himself.

Olathe is taking steps to determine the future of its mostly unused charitable community fund. Earlier this month, the Olathe City Council voted 7-0 to move ahead with a feasibility study for the Olathe Community Fund. The study — which will piggyback on an ongoing study with BPS Philanthropic Advisors on whether to set up a charitable fund to support the Olathe Animal Shelter — will cost $12,500 and be paid for with dollars in the community fund.

Located on 135th Street between Nall and Metcalf avenues, Prairiefire is a mixed-use development with retail, entertainment and dining options that has thus far been built out in phases.
