INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Mark Pope's first season at Kentucky ended in a 78-65 loss to Tennessee in the NCAA's Sweet 16. This one was slow going early with both teams leaving shots short likely trying to shake the nerves. Koby Brea scored the first Kentucky field goal on a three pointer from the wing. Cats were up 3-2. A Lamont Butler trey helped cut the Wildcats deficit to 10-7. The Volunteers would go on a 7-0 run that included three pointers by both Jordan Gainey and Darlinstone Dubar.

Kentucky was trailing 5-4 early when they got the lead on an Otega Oweh driving lay-up. They extended it as Collin Chandler came off the bench and immediately hit a three pointer, Amari Williams tapped in a putback and Koby Brea hit a jumper. It was 13-5 Wildcats.

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky advanced past the first round of the NCAA Tournament with a big second half to beat Troy 76-67 behind 20 points from Otega Oweh. The Wildcats were in a fight from the start. The Trojans Tayton Conerway scored on a driving lay-up to give Troy a 9-7 lead. And it stayed pretty close from there in the first half. UK would threaten to pull away. Otega Oweh made a couple of free throws and then hit a lay-up after a Wildcats steal. And Kentucky would push the advantage to 18-12.

It was a fast and furious pace to start the game with Alabama scoring the first four. Then, Kentucky started to heat up as Koby Brea and Travis Perry each hit three pointers to cut the deficit to 14-12.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Just as he did against Oklahoma in the regular season, Otega Oweh hit a game-winning shot to beat the Sooners 85-84 in the SEC Tournament. But it may have come at another cost as Lamont Butler left the game in the first half and never returned. Kentucky started off hot by hitting their first five shots including three pointers from Otega Oweh and Andrew Carr to take a 8-0 lead.
