JONESBORO — Four people associated with a private school that the prosecutor described as a “make shift child fight club” are scheduled to stand trial in October on charges of permitting child abuse. Mary Tracy Morrison, 50, of rural Jonesboro, founder of the Engage Center for Enriched Learning and the Delta Institute for the Developing Brain, is charged in Craighead County Circuit Court with 11 felony counts of permitting child abuse.

NEWARK — The Independence Steam Electric Station near Newark is scheduled to cease operation of its two coal-fired generators in 2030. But in the meantime, Arkansas utilities are working on plans to continue producing electricity beyond that deadline. Entergy Arkansas, the Arkansas Electric Cooperatives and some municipal electric utilities own the Independence plant, along with the White Bluff plant in southeast Arkansas.
