Located in Kaʻaʻawa, The Crouching Lion Restaurant & Bar just celebrated its one-year anniversary. Boasting picturesque views of Kahana Bay, the eatery offers modern Hawaiian cuisine and dishes with Korean-inspired flavors. If the one-year anniversary seems confusing, that’s because the original Crouching Lion was in business for more than 60 years (it’s been open since the 1950s). The building was initially a private residence, but was eventually sold and converted into an inn.

In true speakeasy style, Honolulu’s newest hidden gem is tucked away within a pawn shop in Waikīkī. RM 38 recently opened its second location within The Imperial Hotel Resort in Waikīkī. Walk through the hotel lobby, look for the pawn shop, and ring the bell to be transported to the speakeasy. Similar to RM 38’s Kakaʻako location (on the second floor of Indochine), the décor of this Waikīkī spot is inspired by Southeast Asia, according to Noa Aoki, marketing director at Aoki Group Restaurants.

Located in Kakaʻako, Robata JINYA offers one of the most reasonable nigiri omakase experiences at $85 per person. The eatery just launched a new $140, 22-course omakase that features fancier presentations and no shortage of seafood. This omakase experience is available at the sushi bar only from 5 to 8:30 p.m. (the eatery is closed on Mondays).

I love the deals during Moku Kitchen’s afternoon happy hour from 2 to 5:30 p.m. The 50% off on small plates and $12 pizzas (instead of the normal $18-$21 price) are sweet discounts. Night owls can now enjoy these same discounts at a later hour — the Kakaʻako eatery just brought back its late-night happy hour. You can take advantage of the restaurant’s happy hour deals during the last hour it’s open.

Just in time for summer, Kawaii Ice Wave and its cold, social media-worthy desserts are now available in Mililani. The biz just opened in the former Snowberry spot in Mililani Shopping Center (close to Foodland). If you’re unfamiliar with the center, just look for the business’s signature pink brick wall and neon signage. Kawaii Ice Wave also has a kiosk in Pearlridge Center (in the “Uptown” side), but closed its Hawaiʻi Kai location to open up in Mililani.
