MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Police arrested a man after intentionally tampering with gas valves, according to officials with the Maryville Police Department. Officers responded after a suspect was seen running away from a natural gas connection near Celtic Drive. He was suspected of opening valves to the gas line and arrested. “There was a brief closure of the northbound lanes 129 bypass in an abundance of caution while responders entered the facility to shut off the valves,” Maryville officials said.

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Back in April, Josh Sullivan was kidnapped while doing mission work in South Africa. Sullivan was based at the Baptist church since 2018 with his family. A multi-agency task force in country began investigating the kidnapping and found where Sullivan was being held. While rescuing him, three suspects were shot. No other injuries were reported, including Sullivan. WVLT’s Ted Hall sat down with him for the first time since he came back.

OLIVER SPRINGS, Tenn. (WVLT) - A man was arrested Thursday after an ongoing search. Officials with the Oliver Springs Police Department said they got a tip about a wanted suspect being at a home on Railroad Avenue. The suspect ran from officers and tried to hide in a thick area of bamboo. Officers did capture and arrest him. He was wanted on three counts of violation of probation stemming from an assault and kidnapping case from 2019.

TBI investigating deadly officer-involved shooting in Morgan County

HARRIMAN, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced Friday the agency was investigating an officer-involved shooting. Deputies with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary call at a house on Ray Cross Road and encountered John A. Cox, according to the TBI. “For reasons under investigation, the situation escalated, resulting in a deputy firing his weapon, hitting Cox, who later died at the hospital,” officials said. No officers were injured.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers announced they were searching for a wanted suspect. They announced Jerry Stevens was wanted in multiple counties. Stevens is wanted for aggravated assault and theft over $10,000 out of Jefferson Co. Officials said he also has outstanding warrants out of Cocke County and Scott County. “Stevens should be considered armed. Do not approach him,” officials said.
