KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the lives of service men and women who were killed in combat protecting our country’s freedom. Knox County Commissioner Shane Jackson makes it a point each year to learn about some East Tennesseans who were killed in combat. This year, he focused on Army Specialist James Tatum. He’s from the same area of McMinn County as Jackson. Tatum was killed by a missile strike in 1991.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A look at the history of Holston Hills Country Club takes you all the way back to the Roaring Twenties. The club has been a staple to East Knoxville for nearly 100 years with the plans coming together in 1926. “Some businessmen in Knoxville that were actually members of Cherokee Country Club go together to buy the old MacDonald Farm which is what you see behind us now,” Chris Dibble, director of golf and general manager of the club said.

Nathaniel Sears, one of the owners of Next Level Brewing Company in Knoxville, said this storm hit too close to home for him. “Laurel County is where I was born and raised, and I went to South Laurel High School,” Sears said. When Sears heard about the storm and damage, he collected supplies and went up there.
